Ability Works

We know that looking for work can feel daunting if you are autistic or have a learning disability. You might want to work but feel unsure about where to start, how to talk about your strengths or what support is available. You are not alone, and that is where Ability Works comes in.

Ability Works is here to support you to build confidence, learn practical work skills and feel more ready for employment. We work alongside you to help you recognise what you are good at and find a route into paid or voluntary work that feels right for you.

The programme runs from our Sutton Road site in Rochford. We know that busy or noisy spaces can be overwhelming, so we have created a calm and welcoming environment where you can take your time, try new things and grow in confidence without pressure.

When you join Ability Works, you will get support in areas such as:

•    Practical workshops to help you build employability skills
•    One-to-one support focused on your goals and interests
•    Help with writing a CV and getting ready for interviews
•    Chances to try out work experience in a supportive setting
•    A friendly, supportive group where you can meet others
•    Two days a week on site, with a clear and steady routine

You can also work towards a nationally recognised ASDAN qualification, giving you something tangible to show for the skills you are building along the way.

As well as the main programme, you can attend one of our weekly drop-in sessions, please see our Frequently Asked Questions below for details.

These sessions are a relaxed way to ask questions, get advice and talk through your next steps around work or volunteering.

If you are curious about Ability Works or just want a chat to see if it might be right for you, please get in touch with us at abilityworks@hamelin.org.uk
