Living more independently can feel exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times, especially if you are autistic or have a learning disability. You might want to build confidence, learn new skills or feel more comfortable getting out into the community, but are not always sure where to start. Life Skills is here to support you to take those steps in a way that feels right for you.

We work with you to build the skills you need for everyday life. This might be at home, out in the community or through trying new experiences. The focus is on helping you feel more confident, capable and in control of your own choices.

Support is flexible and shaped around you. You can take part in one-to-one sessions or small group sessions, depending on what works best for you and your goals. Alongside learning practical skills, you will also have opportunities to meet others, build friendships and feel more connected.

We can support you with things like travelling independently, learning the skills to live in your own home, managing money and staying safe online. We can also help you build the confidence to enjoy social activities, such as days out or even planning a holiday with friends. What you work on is based on your interests, ambitions and what independence means to you.

We know that feeling lonely or isolated is something many people experience. That is why Life Skills runs regular leisure activities, trips out and peer support groups. These give you the chance to try new things, meet new people and find activities you genuinely enjoy.

You will also have the opportunity to work towards ASDAN courses and qualifications, helping you to build skills, recognise your progress and celebrate what you have achieved.
