Participants on Hamelin’s Ability Works employment programme recently enjoyed an inspiring and informative session, as they welcomed a visitor from the automotive industry.

Charlotte Gill, a third year Product Development Degree Apprentice at Ford's Dunton site, visited Ability Works in Rochford to share her experiences and offer insight into the wide range of career opportunities available within the company. Currently on rotation in Electrified Propulsion Engineering, Charlotte is working on electric vehicle batteries, including the innovative Puma EV, giving participants a glimpse into the future of the automotive sector.

During her visit, Charlotte spoke openly about her journey into the industry, offering practical advice on interview techniques and recruitment processes. She also highlighted Ford’s commitment to accessible employment, including the support available for neurodivergent individuals, helping to reassure and encourage those considering similar career paths.

Charlotte shared some of the standout moments from her apprenticeship so far, including a visit to the Red Bull Racing Formula One factory, where Ford is the current power unit supplier, as well as taking part in a world record attempt involving the largest convoy of transit vans. These experiences helped bring to life the exciting possibilities that a career in the industry can offer.

The session provided a valuable opportunity for Ability Works participants to engage directly with an employer, ask questions, and build confidence in exploring their own ambitions. It also marked an important step in strengthening relationships between Hamelin and local employers, opening doors to future opportunities.

Charlotte said: “It was a pleasure to be invited to speak to the wonderful people on the Ability Works programme to share my experience as an apprentice and talk about the different career paths at Ford. I love sharing my passion for engineering and the automotive sector, to giving an insight into what it’s like to work at Ford, but also to show all the fun extra things you can get involved in. Hopefully I was able to inspire at least one person to consider a career in the automotive industry or give them the boost to be open minded and just go for it!"

Markie Musilova, Hamelin’s Employment Manager, said:

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our participants to hear directly from Charlotte about her journey and the opportunities available within Ford. Visits like this are incredibly valuable in helping to inspire confidence and broaden horizons. We are very grateful to Charlotte for taking the time to share her experience, and we look forward to continuing to build positive relationships with employers who are committed to inclusive and accessible workplaces.”
