Volunteer awards 2026: Jacob Gallivan

VA26 Jacob Gallivan web

Jacob first came to Hamelin as a participant on our Ability Works employment project. After completing the programme, he decided to continue his journey with us by volunteering as an administrative assistant at Gowlands, where he has now been volunteering for a year and a half.

Since joining the team, Jacob has taken on a wide range of administrative tasks and continues to develop his skills and confidence every day.

His nomination reads: "Jacob supports the team with lots of different tasks including filing, archiving, scanning documents, updating reports and maintaining records. More recently, he has progressed to updating care plans and uploading them to our Log My Care system, saving staff a huge amount of time.

"Jacob has excellent IT skills and is always happy to help colleagues, often sharing his knowledge and even teaching staff a thing or two about spreadsheets. He is incredibly thorough and takes great pride in everything he does, always making sure tasks are completed to a high standard.

"When Jacob first started volunteering, the workplace environment was completely new to him. Over the last year and a half he has grown enormously in confidence and has become a reliable and valued member of the team. Jacob's support has been invaluable and he is a real asset to Hamelin."
