Doreen has been volunteering for Hamelin for almost one-and-a-half years every Monday in the People team office in Billericay.
She supports the team with recruitment, data input, cross-referencing, file audits, and updating databases. She has also assisted with transferring paper records on to a new online system.
Her nomination reads: “The team has really benefitted from Doreen’s excellent secretarial, administrative and telephone skills and she has been invaluable to the team in a variety of areas.
Doreen is happy to help with a variety of tasks, including the more mundane such as tidying files, photocopying and shredding. This has enabled the team to work more efficiently and projects have been able to go live much sooner as a result.
Doreen is a pleasure to have around and completes every task with enthusiasm, in a very efficient way. She picks tasks up quickly so doesn’t require a lot of instruction or supervision which also saves a huge amount of time. Doreen is a delight to work with, very professional and she fits in really well with the office team. The People team identified teamwork as important to them for the value ‘we are community‘ and Doreen demonstrates this in abundance. She really is a great asset to Hamelin and really deserves to be recognised for her dedication and support.”
Doreen said it was a shock to win the award.
She said: “I honestly didn’t realise the 4 hours a week I volunteer would be so valuable. It was totally unexpected to be recognised, but it’s nice to know the time I give makes a difference. I decided to volunteer when I retired because I wanted to keep a routine, and I’m so glad I found Hamelin. Everyone is so lovely.”
