Iconic artwork set for exhibition

Some of our people in Billericay have created a colourful collection of artworks that will soon go on display at a special public exhibition.

Local professional artist Kirstie Taylor has been volunteering her time to run fun, hands-on art sessions with some of the people we support. Together, they’ve been exploring the people, places and objects that matter most to them, turning their ideas into bold, pop-art inspired pieces full of colour and personality.

The collection includes a brilliant mix of icons, from David Bowie and Ian Dury to Charlie Chaplin, the Statue of Liberty and even a jar of Marmite.

This is the second time Kirstie has teamed up with Hamelin on a project like this. She said it was a joy to help people unleash their creativity.

She said: “It’s been amazing watching everyone dive into the creative process. There’s so much heart and personality in these pieces. I’ve absolutely loved working with everyone again.”

Julie Atkinson, Hamelin’s volunteer manager, said: “We’re so lucky to have Kirstie on board. She brings such energy and warmth to the sessions. The art is fantastic and the whole experience has been so positive for everyone involved.”

As well as seeing the pieces, visitors will also have the chance to buy original artwork, as well as postcards and other replica items inspired by the exhibition.

The Iconic exhibition takes place at the Chantry Centre, Chantry Way, Billericay, CM11 2BB, on Friday 19th September from 7pm to 9pm. The event is free and open to all.

All proceeds from the event will go towards funding activities and opportunities to support autistic adults and people with learning disabilities.
