Hayley has been a mentor on the charity’s befriending programme for more than a year, supporting people with activities such as swimming, gardening and arts and crafts. She has also helped participants gain confidence, including supporting one person with sight issues to travel independently and another to travel to and attend a coding course. Hayley has also led many peer groups such as quizzes, bingo and social trips.
Her award nomination read:
“Hayley has an open, kind, and generous nature. She is always really positive and gains people's trust in a natural way, which soon gives them more confidence in themselves and their abilities. Hayley is very passionate about volunteering and nothing is ever too much trouble for her.
“By volunteering, Hayley has really gained confidence in herself and her abilities. She gained a Level 2 qualification in Independent Advocacy before going on to train as a mentor in the NHS and is now looking at other opportunities to help others.
“Hayley thoroughly deserves to receive some recognition for all her volunteering efforts and win this outstanding contribution award.”
