An art exhibition was held at Billericay Theatre to showcase the work of Hamelin's people.
Local professional artist, Kirstie Taylor, has been volunteering her time to hold sessions with the people the charity supports. They have been working on the project since January which culminated in the ‘Inspired’ exhibition on Friday 16th August.
The group wanted to hold the event to raise funds for Hamelin to support the work the charity does in the community supporting disabled people.
More than 100 people visited the event to see the works which included a range of themes including animals and abstract people. Artworks were available for visitors to buy to raise funds for the charity as well as replica postcards. A raffle was also held with prizes being generously donated by local artists. The event raised £1,862.91.
Volunteer Manager, Julie Atkinson, said it was a fantastic event.
She said: “We are extremely fortunate at Hamelin to have such a dedicated volunteer base who give their time to help others. Kirstie has been incredible teaching our people various skills and unlocking their creativity.”
Artist Kirstie Taylor, who led the art sessions said she was incredibly proud.
She said: “The creativity of the people who have worked on this project is second to none and they created some truly magnificent pieces which were enjoyed by all.
“Volunteering at Hamelin has been hugely beneficial to me as an artist. I can often be quite restrictive in my own work, but collaborating with the people at Hamelin has taught me to be more free. They were experimental trying every brush, using big strokes, little strokes, and choosing vibrant colours.
“The artists should be extremely proud of their efforts. Well done.”
